Easy & Creamy Homemade Hummus

Are you looking for an easy peasy recipe to make your own hummus from scratch at home? You’ve come to the right place.

Homemade hummus tastes sooooo much better than the store-bought. I mean, anything homemade always tasted better. 😉

The beauty of making hummus at home is that you can be dang sure this hummus is healthy and there are no preservatives. Plus, you can experiment with different flavors and textures. For example, you make your hummus a little more dense or runny depending on what you prefer.

There are a few things I’ve noticed are different if you make hummus at home:

  • Homemade hummus is fluffy. I had never seen a ‘fluffy’ hummus at the store. All the well-known brands are usually creamy and thin…but when you make it at home you get a different texture which I call fluffy. You will know what I’m talking about once you make it.
  • More flavor. A big part of the recipe is Tahini, which can be expensive. I feel like a lot of pre-made hummus contains very little tahini which explains why store-bought hummus is always thin.
  • More creamy. Need I say more?

There are two important things to consider before making hummus: Chickpeas and Tahini.

Important consideration 1: Will you use canned chickpeas or will you make it from scratch?

Organic canned chickpeas work just fine. But if you are looking to perk up the flavor of your hummus then make chickpeas from scratch. You also will get so much for your money. Half of the bag of dry chickpeas will yield close to 6 cups of cooked chickpeas! Think about how much hummus you can make.

Important consideration 2: Which Tahini to use.

The brand of Tahini matters a lot and will have a big impact on the taste of your hummus. If your tahini is s**** then your hummus will taste just like it. I recommend only two brands: Wholefoods store-brand tahini and Trader Joe store-brand tahini. Everything else I’ve tries is crap.
