A healthy, chocolate, sweet dessert hummus recipe that is so delicious, you won’t believe it’s made from chickpeas!

Brownie Batter Dessert Hummus

Are you excited to try a dessert that’s made from chickpeas?

When I first saw dessert hummus in grocery stores, I was…a little puzzled. Dessert made from chickpeas? What does it taste like? Is that even possible?

You mean I could eat dessert and not feel like a big crappy creasy baloon afterwards?

Since I make hummus at home almost every week (I refuse to buy the premade ones at this point!), I thought why not make the dessert hummus too?! P.S. If you’re interested in making your own homemade simply + creamy hummus here’s the recipe Easy & Creamy Homemade Hummus.

So, here we go.

This recipe only took one try to get it right. I was surprised too. 😉 Most of the time, recipes take a bit of tweaking and a few tries before coming out just right.

I think because it’s chocolate. It’s hard to mess up chocolate flavored things.

The base for this Brownie Batter Dessert Hummus is the same as for the regular hummus -> chickpeas + tahini. The rest of the ingredients will be sweet vs. savory.

We will be adding unsweetened raw cacao powder. You guys know my love for the raw cacao powder! It’s so much healthier (+ tastes better) than cocoa powder.

What’s the difference? The two powders, cacao, and cocoa look exactly the same, except that cacao powder has all the enzymes since it hasn’t been roasted at high temperatures.

Cacao powder also has a richer, raw dark chocolate taste vs. cocoa powder. I highly recommend using it. But if you don’t have it handy, cacao powder would work well too.

After adding cocoa powder, we will be adding sweetness to our Brownie Batter Dessert Hummus. I opted for agave syrup since that’s what I had. You can also use maple syrup. Coconut sugar would work too, you’ll just need to dilute it in a little bit of water.

The best part of this recipe is that you can tweak the amount of sugar to make it just the way you like it.

Once you’ve mixed everything, let the Brownie Batter Dessert Hummus rest in the fridge for at least 4 hours. This will help it set and will firm up tahini, which will make your dessert very creamy.

When serving, add a little bit of grated chocolate on top for an extra choco kick. Yum!
