So, how does one come up with an idea to make applesauce from scratch? Some thoughts:

  • After apple picking
  • Baby food
  • Dessert
  • Simply in love with applesauce
  • Need applesauce to make a recipe but too lazy to go to the store – my reason for making it!

Last Sunday I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of fresh local apples to make Apple Pie Baked Oatmeal. Since it was my recipe testing/cooking weekend, I also had to make Sweet Potato Casserole. I really wanted to make the casserole refined sugar-free and wanted to try adding applesauce instead of sugar. But…I completely forgot to grab a jar of applesauce at the store!

So, I stared at my apples and since I was way too lazy to walk out of my house to get applesauce, I decided to make it from scratch! It was one of the best surprise decisions I had made.

Making anything from scratch tastes so much better. But applesauce! Oh my! You’ve never ever tasted a goodness like this before! I promise!

Thick and smooth, fluffy and moist, naturally sweet and tastes like fresh apples. Addicting to say the least.

I did not come up with this applesauce recipe all on my own, of course. I did some googling and found a lot of amazing recipes. Most of them, however, had extra ingredients like brown sugar which I thought was unnecessary since apples are naturally sweet.

This recipe is simple and has only uno ingredient – apples! Nothing else. And it is amazing!

I may add some cinnamon or pumpkin spice next time for variation. But if you want a simple, delicious applesauce that only takes 15 minutes to make, then this recipe is for you. Let’s do this!
