Healthy Pumpkin Smoothie recipe with Leafy Greens, no banana, and optional added protein. Fuel your day with healthy energy!
We all simply can’t get enough of pumpkin recipes! I’ve been making all kinds of pumpkin goodness such as Almond Flour Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pecan Pumpkin Butter, Pumpkin Waffles, Easy Pumpkin Soup.
Now, it’s time to make a smoothie! Not just a pumpkin pie smoothie but a healthy green pumpkin smoothie!
Which Leafy Greens Should You Use
There’re so many varieties of greens you can use in this recipe! If you have greens that are starting to go bad in the fridge, this is the best way to use them up!
My favorite in this recipe is spinach for its deep flavor and beautiful green color. Other leafy greens that can work well in this recipe are baby kale, arugula, and watercress.
Smoothie Additions
There’re several yummy ingredients you can add to jazz up this smoothie:
- 1/4 cup pecans for nuttiness
- 1 tbsp almond butter or sunflower butter
- 1 tbsp hemp seeds (stir in after blending)
- 1 tps of freshly grated ginger or 1/2 tsp of ginger powder
- 1/4 cup of oats to turn it into a breakfast smoothie
- Chia seeds
- Flax seeds
- Splash of orange juice
Benefits of Having Smoothies Every Day
I try to have one smoothie a day after I work out. I love a nice, juicy, green smoothie on a day when I don’t have a salad or if I slacked a little on eating healthy.
It’s like you feel a surge of vitamins making a party in your body! Haha
There are tremendous benefits in consuming a smoothie, such as:
- Fueling your body with vitamins and nutrients.
- It gives you healthy energy.
- Satisfies a sweet tooth with something healthy yet with dessert-like taste.
- Getting all the fiber, baby! It helps keep you regular 😉
- If you mix in protein, it’ll help with protein intake.
- Source of anti-oxidants especially if you make a berry smoothie or add some matcha powder.
- Boosts brainpower. It gives you mental alertness and many smoothie ingredients help the brain work faster.
- Keep you full. Having a smoothie for breakfast or as a snack is a great way to help stay full.
- It helps you lose weight. Make a smoothie instead of reaching out for chips or other unhealthy snacks.
- Increases your vegetable intake. Adding veggies to a fruit smoothie is a great way to consume smoothies. You can add leafy greens, frozen cauliflower or zucchini for an extra veggie boost.
