Cinnamon Pear Oatmeal is the breakfast that keeps you full and warms your heart! Fresh pears add decadent crunch and warming cinnamon infuses natural spice.
Sounds like dessert! Doesn’t it?
Recently I’ve been buying pears every time I go grocery shopping and eat them a few times a week as a snack. Pears are perfectly sweet and full of delicate floral aroma that infuses itself into any dish you add them to, especially oatmeal.
In this breakfast recipe, you don’t need to cook the pears. We’re all about quick and easy and perfectly tasty! It is a quick 10-minute recipe to start your morning.
Did I also mention that this oatmeal is sugar free?
As I was creating this recipe in the kitchen one morning, I simply forgot to add sugar. It was the best mistake! I didn’t even notice that there was no sugar until I was writing down all the ingredients to write this post.
I honestly feel that when you’re adding cinnamon to breakfast recipes such as oatmeal and pancakes, the need for sugar disappears. Using cinnamon as a substitute for sugar is a great technique.
By the way, do you know what cinnamon actually is? This question came to me as I was writing this post and I did a quick Google search to find some interesting facts:
- Cinnamon is obtained from the inner bark of a tree. There are two tree species that are used for cinnamon bark. One is called Cinnamomum verum which is considered to be the “true cinnamon” and it’s native to Sri Lanka. The other tree species are referred to as “cassia” which is the most prevalent cinnamon in international commerce that we consume today. 75% of the world’s supply of cinnamon comes from Indonesia and China.1
- The reason cinnamon tastes subtly sweet is that the bark of the tree from which it comes often contains sap which is naturally sweet.2
After reading this, I ran to my kitchen cabinet to see which cinnamon I had. To my disappointment, the label didn’t provide much information about the source. One day I’d really like to taste the “true cinnamon” and see how it compares to everyday Joe cinnamon…I think that would be really cool.
Anyway, let’s get back to the oatmeal recipe and why it is so awesome! It’s fragrant with citrus notes from pears, subtly spicy and sweet from cinnamon and creamy and smooth from almond butter. Plus, it only takes 10 minutes to make!
