15 Benefits of Meal Prep for Vegans

1. Save Time

Meal Prep will save you a significant amount of time each week. Usually, Meal Prep involves making meals for the entire week. Since everything is vegan you don’t have to worry about your meals going bad because there is no meat involved.

If you make all your weekly meals all at once, you will save at least five hours each week. That’s one hour a day on average. What will you do with that extra hour?

2. Save Money

Preparing meals ahead of time will help you save money. You will be less likely to order take-out for dinner because you’re too tired to cook. Not buying $10 salads for lunch every day can save you over two thousand dollars in one year.

You will also find yourself buying a good amount of groceries in bulk such as grains and beans. Buying in bulk always costs less, especially if you bring your own glass jars and refill them at the store.

3. Get Enough Nutrients With Every Meal

Since you will be making your meals ahead of time, you will be more strategic about combining

ingredients to ensure you’re getting enough protein, greens, nutrients, and vitamins. Check out the Complete Plant-Protein Guide for Vegans graphic.

4. Lose Weight

Meal Prepping forces you to exercise portion control. You cook in one batch and then separate your food into portions that last you throughout the week.

Meal Prepping will also lead to eating less junk food. You will be less likely to eat something unhealthy when you’re hungry because all your meals are prepared ahead of time.

Meal Prepping will help you control portion sizes and will help you eat less junk food. These things make it easier to lose and maintain the weight you desire.

5. Achieve Fitness Goals

If you have specific fitness goals in mind, such as building muscle or improving endurance, meal prepping will be a vital part of your overall fitness plan. Nutrition plans for achieving specific fitness goals are usually designed to optimize your performance. Preparing meals ahead of time according to your nutrition plan will help you stick to the plan and ensure you see your hard-earned results.

6. Reduce Stress

Does the question ‘What’s for dinner?’ stress you out? When I don’t know what to have for dinner, it’s usually due to one of two reasons: I have nothing in my fridge or I’m too exhausted to cook.

Meal Prepping throws these two reasons out of the window. All your lunches and dinners are prepared ahead of time and you always know what’s for dinner. Bye bye, stress.

7. Easier Grocery Shopping

Meal Prepping also makes grocery shopping much easier and faster. Since you know exactly what to make ahead of time, you will have a definitive list of all the groceries you need to buy. When I meal prep, my trips to the grocery store are very quick. I’m in and out in a breeze. I don’t browse the aisles looking for inspiration.

8. Reduce Food Waste

The way Meal Prepping works is that you start with the end goal. First, you determine how many meals you need to make for the week. Then you estimate how much of each ingredient you need to buy to prep all the meals. This careful planning ensures you cook all the food you buy and since your meals are portioned out throughout the week, you won’t be wasting any of it.

9. Try a Variety of New Dishes

Meal Prepping also pushes you to try new dishes. Contrary to what some people may believe, Meal Prepping doesn’t mean you have the same dish for lunch and dinner all week long. That will be so boring! Nobody will meal prep if that was the case.

In fact, it’s quite the opposite. I find that meal prepping brings more variety into your meals and pushes you to try new foods.

10. More Time To Do things You Normally Don’t Have The Time For

Preparing your weekly meals ahead of time is a huge time saver. It will save you on average 5 hours a week or 1 hour a day. What will you do with that extra time?

You will finally have the time to go to the gym or try a boot camp class your friends have been raving about. Pick-up and play an instrument you haven’t played in a while or learn how to play guitar. Have you been meaning to read that awesome book that was recommended on your favorite podcast? If nothing else, you will at least have time to go outside and enjoy some fresh air.

11. Avoid Certain Foods If You Have Allergies

Meal prepping is essentially a plan of what you’re going to eat for the week. Since you see all the ingredients at once, you will know exactly what you’re putting into your body. It will help you avoid ingredients you’re allergic to such as soy, nuts or gluten.

12. You Don’t Have To Clean The Kitchen Every Day

Need I say more?

13. Avoid Irregular Snacking

When you meal prep, you usually have a balanced meal to help you stay fuller longer. You will be less likely to snack on chips or cookies throughout the day.

If you love snacking, you can prep that too! Make some energy balls or granola bars. And you will satisfy your snacking tooth. If your meals and snacks are planned out you won’t find yourself completely starving.

14. Be More Organized

Another reason why Meal Prep is so awesome is that it will bring you an internal piece. It will make your life more organized and less chaotic.

15. Be More Creative

Meal Prepping does mean eating the same thing every day for months. The essence of Meal Prep is to use a few main ingredients to make a variety of dishes.

For instance, how many different dishes can you make with black beans? You can make a burrito, tortilla soup, burgers, salad, mashed spread, chili, tacos, or breakfast hash.
